We have plenty of animals over at Midway! Each animal is unique and is a special part of our family. Their personalities are each so different, which makes visiting Midway so much fun! We enjoy our animals, and we’d love for you to get to know them better!
Coco is our 14-year-old white cockatoo. She’s a native to Midway and has made it her home. Coco is a caffeine fiend! She loves coffee and will drink your whole cup if you let her, but she’s not allowed to drink it anymore. Her favorite thing to do is chew the wood underneath her perch which also happens to be her favorite hangout. She’s a total “people person” (or cockatoo) and loves to be pet and held, if she’s in the mood.
Romeo is our 35-year-old green parrot. He’s the grandpa of the group! He was donated to us about four years ago. His favorite food is saltine crackers and his favorite thing to do is nap in his cage and enjoy the humidity. He’s a very shy bird. He likes talking (when he feels like it) and being talked to. Since he’s shy he mainly keeps to himself around new people.
Picassa is our 9-year-old female Sun Conure. She was donated to us five years ago, but fits right in with Van Gogh. Just like Van Gogh, she loves to eat sunflower seeds and dried banana chips. Picassa is very polite and loves to say, “thank you” to people! Maybe she learned it from Coco and Romeo - they all talk on the back porch together.
Van Gogh is our 15-year-old male Sun Conure. Van Gogh is a native to Midway, unlike Picassa. Even though he’s in a separate cage from Picassa, he loves to play with her, so we always make sure their cages are close. Van Gogh is very talented and loves to sing, but since he’s shy, he only does it when he thinks no one is around.
Baby is our 15-year-old python. She was named after Baby from Dirty Dancing and she’s a native to Midway. Her favorite meal is a whole rabbit and her favorite pastime is taking a dip in her private pool. Somebody dared to put Baby in the back corner of the shop, but she’s ok with it. She lives there with her best friend Red.
Red is our 12-year-old boa. He’s Baby’s roommate and we brought him home from the pet shop 10 years ago. His favorite thing to eat is a giant lab rat. He loves to hang out in the “penthouse” part of their cage. He also loves to climb the tree branch in his room so he can sunbathe.
Next to Baby and Red we have an assortment of local snakes. None of them are venomous and they range from Milk Snakes to Yellow Rat Snakes.
Last, but not least, our baby alligators! They range in age from two to four years old. Most of them are named Hollywood since they’re our local celebrities. They came to us from the local alligator farm down the road from us. They love to eat chicken livers, and their favorite thing to do is pose for pictures with our guests. They give our captains the opportunity to educate our guests on Florida’s gators.
